Replanting History
The Power of People Leadership Institute (POPLI) is a community based personal development and leadership training organization, founded in 2005 by Bro. Shane Price and Dr. Verna Cornelia Price in the basement of their home. They decided they were going to serve, based on Dr. Verna’s book, The Power of People, four kinds of people that can change your life. With this book, they address different needs of the community, by enacting the Re-planting program and other programs.
Our Re-planting program serves the prison population starting in 2005 in Faribault prison, and later extended to five other Minnesota prisons. POP is community centered, deeply rooted in community development and seeks for the community to be an important part of solving community problems. Our approach at POP challenges, inspires, and informs individuals; helping them overcome obstacles and achieve success in all areas of life, through personal power, personal development, and leadership training.
For over 15 years, our Re-planting program continually serves second chance individuals both within and outside the Minnesota prisons. Through this program, we provide tools and training individuals can use to change their lives while they are incarcerated, and upon release from prison; we provide them with support and resources needed to help them to transition back into the community. The program serves this population by providing mental health resources, support group meetings, personal development classes, leadership training, housing resources, employment resources, etc. currently, the Replanting program has less than 3% recidivism rate, and 85% of its participants are employed; some of whom are homeowners.
